Processing of Cups in PP, PET, and HIPS

The thermoforming process typically falls into two distinct segments. The most common is a thermoforming process utilizing a separate trim press. This approach is used to produce a wide variety of product from the entire spectrum of thermoformable plastic materials.

TSL offers its Low Flex Series of thermoformers with the appropriate accompanying trim press for this concept. Everything from deep draw disposable cups to lids can be produced on these state of the art machines.

The second option is to thermoform product utilizing one of TSL's highly efficient trim-in-place thermoforming systems. We offer two distinct approaches to the trim-in-place approach. The first utilizing high tonnage forming presses in conjunction with high speed retrieval systems. We offer both the FT8K and FT14K models for close tolerance applications such as packaging for the dairy industry.

TSL also offers two Tilt Technology machines, the FT4K. These are high tonnage machines for a given forming area and work in conjunction with automation systems to collate and package the products being produced. With the Tilt Technology machines TSL also offers the option to provide in mold labeling (T-IML), a rapidly growing graphic process for food packaging.


Hot or Cold Drink Lids

Processing of Hot and Cold Drink Lids by Two Methods

Hold or cold drink lids can be produced on either the TSL Low Flex series of machines or in a rotary or mold to melt process.

For Lids from PP, PET, or HIPS the Low flex series of thermoformers and the HD or LR trim presses are in wide spread use. Either roll fed or in-line with an extruder. TSL can partner with other vendors to incorporate automated packaging of the lids as well as placing the sleeves of lids in to corrugated boxes.

For HIPS lids the The Rotary Thermoforming systems or Melt to Mold Technology is an energy and labor efficient process in which an extruder is operated in-line with a rotating wheel with a lid mold with numerous cavities. The hot sheet is pulled directly onto the rotating cavities instantly forming the lid and cooling it in one rotation of the wheel. From the mold the formed cups are fed into a TSL horizontal trim press for trimming and packaging.


Food Service Containers

Thermoformed Containers Processed from Rigid and PS Foam resins

TSL Low Flex thermoformers and HD or LR series trim presses, horizontal or vertical, can process food service containers of a wide variety, hinged lid, cake domes, produce trays, etc from various rigid resins: HIPS, APET, CPET, TFPP, PP, OPS, etc. Sheet widths of 22" to 55". PS foam trays, plates, hinged lid containers, etc can be processed on the Low Flex 5.1 former and 5.0 horizontal or vertical trim press.


Ventilated or Tamper-Evident Products

Berry Baskets, Consumer-Safe Fresh Food Containers

Fresh berries require ventilated packaging to maintain freshness. The TSL LR5.0 Pre-Punch Station can punch holes in the the bottoms and side walls of berry baskets to provide adequate airflow to maximize shelf life. After hole punching the container is trimmed in the LR5.0 Vertical Trim Press. Alternately, the TSL dual action punch station provides movement of the top and bottom platen so the infeed and exit treadles do not have to pivot keeping the sheet line stable and insuring accurate and low risk punching of the vent holes.
Freshly made soups and salads sold in markets and delis require a tamper evident seal to protect the consumer. The TSL LR5.0 Pre-Punch press can be used to perforate the removable seal on the perimeter of the container. Next in line is the TSL LR5.0 Vertical trim press.
